World Cup 2010 to be shown in HD on Freeview

Freeview HDBroadband TV News today report that the BBC’s Graham Plumb, speaking at DVB world in Berlin,  said that they expect to reach 30-40% of the UK population with High Definition coverage over the Freeview platform.

To view HD coverage on Freeview, you will need not only a HD television, but also a HD capable Freeview set-top-box – which aren’t currently available.

However, HD services will not be broadcast in your area until the analogue signals are switched off. The analogue services currently occupy the space in the transmitters that is needed for HD. The last of the switchovers to all-digital signals will be in 2012 for London, the north-east of England and Northern Ireland.
