This Technika branded model from Tesco seems to have it all – twin Freeview HD tuners, built in 320Gb hard drive with Freeview+ features (record 2 programs at the same time, series link etc) for a great price at launch of £200.
On top of the basics, this model offers HD upscaling – effectively taking the standard definition Freeview channels and working its magic to enhance the quality of the image to make the most of your HD TV.
One of the features that will appeal to most is the internet connectivity. While some models offer connectivity by ethernet cable or an optional wireless adapter, the 8320HD has built-in WiFi. Simply enter your details of your home WiFi and away you go. Currently the Smartbox enables you to play BBC iPlayer through your TV. So even if you haven’t recorded a program using the built in hard-drive, chances are you will be able to watch again using the iPlayer.

I recently bought a Technika Smartbox 8320HD Freeview+ HD Recorder to link with my ‘full HD’ series 5 Samsung TV. However, the picture is disappointing and less clear than the normal digital picture. I was expecting a much sharper ‘HD’ picture as you see in many retail stores! But on the whole very disappointing. I would be grtaeful for any advice as I believe that the set up has been done correctly.

I bought this machine, had it a day and nothing but trouble kept on freezing every 3 to 5 mins when on HD
Took it back and got my money back
Hi everyone
This afternoon bought Technika 8320HD from Tesco
It works but most features need to be registered with an outfit called Fetch
I put in my details (4 times) but cannot register
Phoned Tesco, told me to ring Fetch
Fetch ” are fed up getting calls re their product – we only supply it to Tesco and its nothing to do with us that is does not work! ”
Told me to ring Tesco – unwilling to take any responsibility for their product
I have never come across such an apaulling customer facing attitude (and this was the polite version)
Fetch are awful
They “escalated my ticket (whatever that means ) and can expect response in 24 hours
Just rubbish
was about to buy this box myself, but while researching product kept comming across same horror stories regarding its reliability and function so gave it a wide birth seems like that payed off.
